Want a wrist mounted flying wearable camera? Who doesn´t? At CES 2015 we got to check out Nixie a camera carrying quadcopter (aka minature drone) that you strap to your wrist.
Back in October we got to check out Intel`s Make it Wearable Challenge, there were several awesome companies that made all kinds of devices that used Intel`s Edison, a computer the size of an SD card. Nixie took the grand prize of a Million Dollars and was the star of Intel`s CES 2015 Keynote where we got to see it in action. Nixie successfully flew out a few feet took a photo of Intel CEO Brian Krzanich and the Nixie team and flew right back.
Nixie is well on its way to mastering Boomerang mode, the goal is to launch Nixie with the flick the wrist, the intensity indicating how far you`d like it to fly out, and then have it return to you mounting back on to your wrist like a falcon. In our hands on video you`ll be able to see Nixie return and be caught, so the team is well on their way to making this a reality. The winnings from the Make it Wearable Challenge will be used to develop stronger and safer materials, after all, you will be wearing this on your wrist.
Since October Nixie has become smaller and lighter weighing in at only 60 grams and is ambitiously aiming to have a product ready to go to market this year. Like any start up their business model is in flux but their goal is to have pricing be competitive with consumer action cameras like GoPro.

At CES 2015 we saw the Edison platform get an update to Curie, it wasn’t enough that they’d made a computer he size of an SD Card now they were looking to make them the size of buttons. Curie wasn’t a prototype, it was already functioning and Krzanich pulled out an App that had monitored his steps during the keynote. Curie comes built with a Bluetooth low-energy radio, motion sensors, and components designed to monitor different kinds of physical activity. Curie will come with a coin size that will run “for extended periods”.
